Is Video the Future of Content Marketing in the Mobile Age?

I don’t know about you but I personally hate reading blogged content on mobile phones. Perhaps it’s my age? My eyes definitely aren’t as good as they used to be. The cold weather doesn’t help. Have you tried pinching and tapping at your mobile phone’s screen just to make the content big enough to read whilst wearing gloves? It simply doesn’t work.

I'm guessing I’m not the only one who feels like this. I really believe that blogged content just doesn’t cut it on mobile devices.
As someone who earns their living (amongst other things) writing blog posts – this should fill me full of terror. After all, the Internet as most of us know it is definitely becoming more mobile.
It’s a fact that 65 percent of email is now consumed on mobile devices and we all know that the killer application in many social media networks arsenal is their mobility. Email and social media content can be perfectly tailored to the mobile environment by keeping it nice and short. So what’s a blogger to do if we are to stay relevant in the mobile age?
The answer might just be video.
Video is made for social media. Whether you are uploading carefully crafted YouTube programming or hastily shot, 6 second, looping Vine videos, it’s the perfect medium to consume on the move and, with the right message, delivered at the right time, people just cannot resist sharing it.
This means, writers like me might have to start getting more comfortable in front of a camera (something I’ve never been very good at), or perhaps start scripting content for more photogenic colleagues who don’t mind the bright lights of (online) fame.
What steps are you taking to future proof your content and ensure your audience remains engaged with your brand in the mobile age? Could video be the social engagement tool you are looking for?
